Nilu27

Here’s an example of automotive spaghetti – the NILU hypercar’s “Hot V” engine with its 12 swirling exhaust pipes is alive, according to its makers at Nilu27. Founders Sasha and Inna Selipanov recently traveled to New Zealand to witness the brand new V-12 engine fired for the first time.

The milestone took place on , June 17,  marking a first run for the highly anticipated power unit. Developed in close collaboration with specialized high-performance engine developers Hartley Engines, the power unit is a masterclass in traditional internal combustion engineering.

It features a unique “Hot V” configuration – with the exhaust headers placed between the cylinder heads to optimize both performance and packaging. And while the engine was originally projected to produce 1,070 horsepower, initial dyno testing has already exceeded those projections, while reaching a spine-tingling 11,000 RPM redline.

Nilu27
“This is the moment theory became reality,” said Sasha Selipanov, Founder of Nilu27. “By firing-up this stunning V12 we didn’t only prove our engineering capabilities, we delivered the soul of the NILU. As most of the automotive world embraces digital and electric sterility, we’ve doubled down on the raw, visceral drama of high RPM, naturally aspirated internal combustion. The Nilu27/Hartley V12 will make our hypercar truly timeless. And we hope the video from our first dyno test will generate the same excitement among viewers as it did when we were present.”

Nilu27
Nelson Hartley from Hartley Engines, echoed the excitement from the workshop floor in New Zealan.

“To see this bespoke V12 come to life after months of intense development is an indescribable feeling. This isn’t just an engine; it’s a piece of art that pushes the boundaries of what a naturally aspirated power unit can do. We knew we had something special on paper, but seeing it outperform expectations on the dyno right out of the gate is phenomenal.”

The naturally aspirated  6.5-liter, 12-cylinder engine has an 80-degree bank angle….and those who drive it will have a 7-speed manual. Following further testing, final calibration and refinement cycles in New Zealand, the V-12 engine will soon leave Palmerston North for the Nilu27 R&D and production facilities in Lahr, Germany. Once there, it will be integrated into the company’s first driving prototype.

Quick Take: 2026 Range Rover SE LW

EV Rider reviewer Dan Scanlan takes a test drive in a 2026 Range Rover SE LW – long wheelbase, that is.

Almost the top-tier luxury member of the venerable Land Rover clan, this long-wheelbase version of the fifth-generation Range Rover Sport ranges out to 207 inches. Yet its alloy-skinned roots date back to that first Land Rover of the late ‘40’s, and the first Rangie in 1970. It’s slick .29 coefficient of drag has slim black grill, a clamshell aluminum bonnet, sleek flanks and black roof, all planted on 24-inch Pirelli radials on 10-spoke alloy wheels

The interior has what one friend calls “plush” leather seats, stitched low-gloss black leather, and smoked gray wood. There’s a gauge display can showcase classic gauges, or a map with speed readout, and more. There’s no physical buttons – they are in the high-mounted 13.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display that handles wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus navigation, off-road info, surround-view (and other) cameras, climate controls and more.

Long rear doors access two plus captain’s chairs and a decently livable third row, all done in leather. And the power rear hatch is a clamshell – long upper section, and a smaller lower one that forms a handy seat under the shaded upper.

There’s a 3-liter turbo inline six with 395 hp, a selectable four-wheel-drive system, and 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and a Sport shift option. You have electronic air suspension with up to 11.6 inches in its highest for offroad terrain. It’s quick enough – hit 60 mph in 6.5 seconds with sharper shifts. There’s multiple off-road modes for Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, Sand, Rock Crawl and Configurable – it met a gravelly trail with aplomb; quiet and sure-footed.

McLaren

McLaren will reveal an authentic M6GT, restored by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), that brings founder Bruce McLaren’s original road-car ambition to life at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Produced using original body molds and authentic reference materials held in McLaren’s archives, the M6GT is a celebration of heritage that connects McLaren’s racing origins with the company’s road car accomplishments. MSO constructed the car from the ground up, combining restored components and freshly engineered one-offs to remain faithful to Bruce’s intent; paint, finishes and many details were revisited and re-engineered from original materials and photographs to preserve authenticity.

McLaren
“The M6GT: Restored by MSO has been a labor of craft and care for the team and served as both a technical education and a living reminder of Bruce’s ambition to take McLaren beyond the racetrack,”  MSO director Jon Simms says.  “This car occupies a unique place in our collection – a tribute to the very beginnings of the company and a spiritual education for its future.”
To ensure ultimate authenticity, the M6GT: Restored by MSO uses a period-correct engine and gearbox, and the small-block V8 is fitted with ‘camel hump’ cylinder heads in line with the original specification.
The M6GT is the first expression of Bruce McLaren’s road-car ambitions and draws directly from the M6A racing program. The chassis is from a period-built M6A racer, verified against historic McLaren reference vehicles, in-keeping with the original vision.

McLaren

At the center of the car sits the original 1970s M6A race car-derived cockpit, which serves as the emotional and physical heart of the build. Around it, hidden structural elements were hand-fabricated by MSO specialists, including the roll hoop, rear frame support structure, internal clam reinforcement and wiring harness– each created with the same care as the visible surfaces.
The suspension is original M6GT hardware, meticulously restored and rebuilt..

National Motor Museum

The historic Sunbeam 1000HP land speed record car that set no less than five outright land speed records between 1922 and 1027 has come to the U.S. after extensive renovation at the National Motor Museum arena at Beaulieu, England.

National Motor Museum

Set to be shown Aug. 16 at the Pebble Beach Concours, the long red machine got a special sendoff at the museum, joined by two other successful record breaking Sunbeams – the museum’s own Sunbeam 350hp that set records with Kenelm Lee Guinnes at Brooklands in 1922, and a privately owned Sunbeam Tiger that is seen regularly in historic motorsport events in the UK.

National Motor Museum

This is the first time for many years that all three Sunbeams have been together, before the Sunbeam 1000 was sent to the U.S. with the help of CARS International Shipping Manager Matthew Costello-Clarke.

“This was a unique challenge as, because of the size of Sunbeam’s wheels and that they’re solid at the back, we had to double-strap the chassis to the container,” he said.

National Motor Museum Senior Engineer Ian Stanfield, who led Sunbeam’s restoration, said: they were “already looking forward to celebrating Sunbeam’s return to Beaulieu next year, and I will be happy once it’s back here safe and sound.”

The Sunbeam Tiger is on loan to the National Motor Museum, and will be on exhibition until the 6th July.

Ford Motor Company

The 1965 Ford Mustang convertible – the first pony car – has been inducted as the 38th vehicle added to the National Historic Vehicle Register, according to The Hagerty Drivers Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to preserving automotive culture and history.

The announcement coincides with the opening of Ford Motor Company’s “Driving America Forward” exhibit at Union Station in Washington, D.C., where the car is on public display through July 14.

Ford Motor Company

The Wimbledon White convertible is unique because it is one of 23 Mustangs that carried visitors through the Ford Pavilion’s Magic Skyway attraction at the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair in New York City.

“The 1965 Mustang display at the World’s Fair wasn’t just a car launch, in many ways it was the launch of an entire generation,” said McKeel Hagerty, Chairman of Hagerty and the President of the Board of Directors of the Hagerty Drivers Foundation. “This particular car carried tens of thousands of enthusiasts into the future at the most celebrated exhibition of its era. Its story belongs to all Americans, and there is no better moment to make that official than America’s 250th birthday.”

Ford Motor Company

Fitted with special undercarriage rigging and pulled along a cable track, this Mustang traveled an estimated 5,000 miles over six months, transporting approximately 40,000 passengers through a Disney-designed journey from prehistoric times into the space age. It is one of only a handful of Magic Skyway Mustangs known to survive, and is owned by Sam Pack of Texas.

The National Historic Vehicle Register documents and records vehicles of significant importance in American history and culture. Documentation of each vehicle is a partnership between the Hagerty Drivers Foundation and the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Historic American Engineering Record, and is permanently archived in the Library of Congress.

Quick Take: 2026 Cadillac Escalade Platinum Sport

EV Rider reviewer Dan Scanlan takes a test drive in a 2026 Cadillac Escalade Sport – a 211.9-inch-long, 7-seat luxury SUV with black shield-shaped grille, the central Cadillac badge glowing at night, and tacks of vertical multi-element LED headlights. It rides on 24-inch Bridgestone Alenza rubber on 15-spoke alloy wheels, with a formally square roofline with black side trim and slim roof rack – an impressive looking SUV.

The interior has a wide-screen dashboard – 55 inches, starting with a configurable high-rez gauge cluster visible through a power-adjustable steering wheel that’s got haptic touch buttons to handle that screen – even Night Vision. That flows into a center touchscreen section, then there’s a 20-inch front-passenger touchscreen that allows streaming and internet browsing.

There’s three rows of plush white semi-aniline leather seats inside power operated doors – brush a finger on the touchscreen at the head of the center console, and they hands-free open and shut. Seating includes comfy captain’s chairs with center armrests occupy the second row of this luxury jet on wheels, facing dual 12.6-inch touchscreens. There’s a decent-size third-row bench seat with room for two, maybe three adults in a pinch, and lots of cargo space – posh cooled/massaging first and second row seats, and 42-speaker AKG Studio Reference audio system too.

And under the hood, a 6.2-liter V-8 with 420-hp and a healthy 460 lb-ft of torque, funneled to all or rear wheels only via a 10-speed automatic – 60 in a quick 5.5 seconds. It can handle 1,580 pounds of people and cargo, and tow 8,100 pounds of stuff. And it’s well behaved in daily driving, handling corners quite well for its size and height

Photos – Morgan Motor Company

Britain’s venerable Morgan Motor Company has a new car – but there’s only nine to be built, and sadly, it looks like none of the Midsummer coupe will be coming to the U.S.

The design has billet aluminum A-pillars, with a windshield bonded directly to its structure. Inside, cream leather with teak wood inlays and real aluminum. Under its bonnet, BMW’s turbocharged 3-liter inline-6 paired to an 8-speed automatic.

“Midsummer Coupé began with a conversation,” said Morgan Managing Director Matthew Hole. “A client came to us with an idea and, rather than asking how closely we could meet that brief, we asked ourselves how far we could take it.”

The introduction of a fixed-head architecture allowed Morgan’s designers to rethink the vehicle’s proportions, the roofline flowing seamlessly into the rear bodywork. The ash body frame forms part of the load-bearing architecture, helping transfer loads through the structure whilst also providing natural acoustic benefits.

No price tag announced – and no mention of it on Morgan’s U.S. website.

Quick Take: 2026 GMC Sierra AT4 EV

EV Rider reviewer Dan Scanlan takes a test drive in a 2026 GMC Sierra AT4 EV – a 231-inch-long, 75-inch tall, Summit White EV pickup truck with real power – 725 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque – and real range. It shares the well-done GM Ultium platform with the Chevrolet Silverado EV we just tested, but gets the AT4 treatment – red tow hooks, 2-inch higher suspension, skid plate and 18-inch AT4 wheels wearing meaty, knobby off-road Goodyear Wrangler rubber.

The interior is cleanly done, high-tech and a tad richer in trim and look, with 16-way power-adjustable front seats, 11-inch gauge screen and 16.8-inch center touchscreen that shows navigation, EV info and more. The latter gets simulated overhead camera images to help back neatly into spots, plus focused nose and tail camera. There’s serious room for four adults, plus 57.5-cubic-foot cargo bed that’s expandable ‘cause there’s a cabin midgate – it can handle stuff over 10 feet long. And there’s a big frunk.

.On the road – and off – there’s multiple liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery modules down low between electric motors, one at the front, the other in the rear – with Torque Vectoring e4WD. Yes, it has rear-wheel-steer and a crab walk setting so you can angle a bit sideways.

But that EV system gave us real range – GMC says up to an indicated 478 miles – and it can tow more than 12,000 pounds. It’s also quick – a Thors Hammer mode with Sport and Adrenaline settings unleashes all 760-hp to fly to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, all-wheel-drive meaning it does it with no fuss.

So read lots more about this – GMC Sierra AT4 EV Goes The Distance plus more interior and exterior images by EV Rider reviewer Dan Scanlan. And check out lots more views of EV, PHEV and ICE vehicles at EV Rider.

Pikes Peak

Romain Dumas is the 2026 king of the mountain.

Dumas piloted the 2025 Ford Super Mustang Mach-E to the summit of Pikes Peak in 8:18.202, a year after the 1,400-hp electric special won its class, but only came in second place overall.

The Mach-E has 6-Phase fed by 50kWh of ultra-high-performance Li-polymer NMC pouch cells.

Ford

There’s a carbon braking system, forged magnesium wheels, and Pirelli P-Zero tires designed to handle 156 turns up to the 14,115-foot summit. The body shape and wings create 6,900 lbs. of downforce at 150 mph.

The Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb is one of the longest-running races in the world, being held 103 times since 1916. You can catch Dumas’ winning run at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_QCkiFBpN4.

Quick Take: 2026 BMW M5 Touring

EV Rider reviewer Dan Scanlan takes a test drive in a 2026  BMW M5 Touring. That’s a station wagon with a difference – or two – or more. The seventh-gen version of this M-Division autobahn burner, it’s a plug-in hybrid with rorty V-8 and a sleek shape that starts with twin-kidney grill, lots of gaping air intakes and spoilers, serious Continental rubber – and four doors plus a hatch done in a wild Vegas Red Metallic.

The interior is designed for the driver, with body-hugging buckets seats up front, a thick-rimed steering wheel with shift paddles – and a sweeping digital display that starts with a configurable 12.3-inch gauge display, a 14.9 inch infotainment touchscreen with BMW’s iDrive 8.5 interface, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as HD radio and more..

Four adults fit nicely in here – so does 27-cubic-feet of luggage, or 67 cubic feet with the rear seatbacks folded flat. And over it all, a long panoramic roof with power shade in a lush Alcantara Suede headliner.  .

Under that long bonnet lies the happy place here – a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 with 717 hp and 738 lb ft of torque, some of that from an electric motor in back that adds 195 hp and 206 lb-ft of torque. There’s an 8-speed M Sport automatic. There’s six drive modes, from eCONTROL (best hybrid efficiency) on up to Dynamic Plus. Plug it in, and BMW says this M5 Touring’s 14.8 kWh battery allows for up to 87 mph (and up to 33 miles) from electric motor alone. Or launch control achieves 60 mph in 3.1 seconds, electric motor torque immediate with a hint of rear wheelspin, then the V-8 mellow bellowing – .92Gs on launch. It’s also very agile, flat and secure to play with due to grippy rubber, four-wheel-drive and adaptive suspension, pulling a very impressive 1.03Gs in steady-state cornering with no understeer.

Quick Look: 2026 Ford Explorer Tremor 4WD

EV Rider reviewer Dan Scanlan takes a test drive in a 2026 Ford Explorer Tremor 4WD, basically the police package of this SUV for the civilian who wants to play with serious off-road equipment.

The 2026 is a 2025 refresh of the revamped 2020 model, the Tremor’s new grill getting wider, a copper bar accent across the black honeycomb mesh between LED headlights with strip DRLs. Black alloy wheels, one spoke done in copper, wear off-road oriented 18-inch Bridgestone Dueller A/T rubber. It’s recognizably an Explorer, but with off-road lights flanking the Ford emblem.

Inside, the 2025 refresh of the Explorer eliminated a lot of physical controls – perforated aluminum Bang & Olufsen speaker grills accent doors over more stitched armrests, while dash center, a wider touchscreen that handles almost every infotainment function you wish, albeit some a menu tap or two down. Plush leather and suede seats get heat, cooling and massage, plus more copper stitching and “TREMOR” embroidered in the seat uppers. Captain’s chairs in the second row have great head and leg room with a usable if low rear 2-person bench seat – second and third rows fold flat to really expand space.

There’s a 3-liter EcoBoost V-6 with 400 hp, easily tackling a muddy, pot-holed mud path next to a salt marsh. On the road, in Sport mode, the Explorer seems to pull out of the hole quicker en route to 60 mph in a quick 4.8 seconds. And in corners – all-wheel-drive is invoked in Sport mode – power distribution is sent to the wheels as needed, so it stayed neutral with a little body roll around corners.

So read lots more about this – 2026 Ford Explorer Tremor 4WD Is Powerful and see more interior and exterior images by EV Rider reviewer Dan Scanlan. And check out lots more views of EV, PHEV and ICE vehicles at EV Rider.

Wait – there’s more:

As Genesis Magma Racing’s #19 GMR-001 Hypercar managed a 13th place finish in its first outing at the famed tack, the South Korean manufacturer unveiled its Magma GT3 Concept for the street.

José Muñoz, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, told those at the weekend news conference at the track that it is “bringing lessons from the track to our Magma performance vehicles and in how we run the business.”

And Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis, said the concept represent two distinct yet connected expressions of Genesis performance. “embodies our vision of luxury and athleticism on the road, while the Magma GT3 Concept translates that philosophy into the race environment, where every element is driven by performance, efficiency, and purpose.”

“Together, they demonstrate how Genesis is exploring the full spectrum of high performance—from refined grand touring to uncompromising motorsport,” he said.

The Magma GT Concept is conceived as a two-passenger luxury grand tourer. The design is defined by a low-slung front end, wide fenders, and dynamic mid-engine proportions, while its interior combines a twin-cockpit layout with a driver-centric architecture, centered around an analog instrument cluster inspired by motor racing timekeeping instruments.

Developed in collaboration with Hyundai Motorsport, the GT3 Concept is not what the production version, if built, will look like. But Genesis said that it is “under exploration, with architecture, components, and potential development pathways yet to be defined” as one of several possible scenarios.
