Traverse City, MI – July 25, 2023 – The Amelia’s 29th annual motoring week will offer an unforgettable experience when it returns to the breathtaking ocean-side Golf Club of Amelia Island and The Ritz-Carlton, a AAA Five-Diamond resort, from February 29 – March 3, 2024. The Amelia, one of the world’s most recognized lifestyle concours, kicks-off The Amelia Car Week bringing the global community together around the love of cars. This includes partnering with the automotive industry’s leading brands to offer the most engaging enthusiast-centered experiences:

“We look forward to returning to Concours weekend with the second annual iteration of The Hangar Amelia on Saturday, March 2nd at Bent Wing Flight Services, where we will feature an over-the-top exhibition of more than 100 rare and collector cars and an array of very special vintage aircraft,” said CarCoterie Co-Founder Jeff Einhorn. “Guests who join us for the early evening soirée can expect delicious food, premium fine wine and spirits, live music and a great time to be had by all,” added CarCoterie Co-Founder Shamin Abas.

“The popularity and status of The Amelia as a premier concours venue for the world’s most serious and enthused collectors has only continued to grow in recent years. As a global auction house, we especially look forward to our auction at Amelia Island each year, where the market continues to see record setting sales and booming numbers in attendance. I look forward to all that Amelia motor week will have to offer in 2024 and have no doubt that it’ll be yet another year for the books,” said Gooding & Company President and Co-Founder, David Gooding.

“The Amelia began in 1996 as the ‘racers’ concours’ and has evolved into this phenomenal week that we’re so proud to host on behalf of car lovers. It is the first must-attend automotive event of the year that enthusiasts around the world look forward to as the start of concours season,” said McKeel Hagerty, The Amelia Chairman and Hagerty CEO. “In racing, like life, success breeds success and that’s why we’re blessed to be joined by some of the best brands in the world while we set about preserving concours traditions and offering innovative experiences for our loyal entrants and guests.”

The Amelia’s multiday car culture celebration will kick-off Thursday, February 29, 2024, with daytime ride & drives followed by a luxurious evening reception, then Friday’s seminar and a movie night. Saturday’s Cars & Community will include RADwood, Concours d’Lemons, Future Driver’s Club, Ride & Drives, a Bavarian beer garden and a curated Cars & Caffeine. That evening’s Honoree Dinner will celebrate a racing icon with an intimate format for a refined experience. On Sunday, The Amelia Concours d’Elegance will highlight more than 250 historically significant vehicles in more than 30 classes. Additional luxury amenities will be announced in the coming months.

Guests looking to book weekend travel and experiences will be invited to join a pre-sale ticket offering in early August.

The Amelia 2023 Highlights

Last year’s 28th annual gathering at The Amelia saw 25,000 enthusiasts, 218 collector car ride and drive experiences, thousands of young enthusiasts engaged and a record 800+ display vehicles in featured auctions and test drive events on the grounds of the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island.

Non-profit giving included $142,000 pledged to local organizations including Spina Bifida of Jacksonville, local Shop with Cops programs and Community Hospice and Palliative Care. Youth focused events hosted thousands of participants in the onsite Future Drivers Club, a supercar parade for local students as well as a unique youth judging program at Sunday’s concours. Environmental sustainability efforts included self-service water stations which diverted 2,347 water bottles from landfills while a crew of “green ninjas” ensured that 1.5 tons of waste was recycled and an 80% reduction in printed programs saved 236 trees. Hagerty offset 5,000 miles driven during the weekend through its ECO program which will result in reforestation projects in the United States to absorb the estimated 6,400 pounds of carbon emissions.

And …

Ol’ Parnelli Jones would be proud to see what Hennessey Performance has done with its latest mod of a modern Ford Mustang.

Looking as evil as Jones’s 1969 Bud Moore Boss 302 Ford Mustang, Hennessey announces high-performance supercharged upgrades for the seventh-generation 2024 Ford S650 Mustang Dark Horse. Fitted with Ford’s naturally aspirated Gen-4 Coyote 5-liter V-8, Hennessey upgrades the Dark Horse with GT500 connecting rods and a dual throttle body to earn a factory rating of 500 hp. The 2024 Dark Horse may be ordered with either a Tremec 6-speed manual (3.73 gears) or with Ford’s 10-speed automatic (3.55 gearing).

Regardless of transmission choice, the track-focused Mustang features upgraded multi-piston Brembo performance brakes on both axles.

A high-performance supercharger and a high-flow air induction system, upgraded fuel injectors, and a new fuel pump gives the ‘H850’ Dark Horse 850 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque – a 70 percent increase in power!

To complement its potent powerplant, the Hennessey ‘H850’ Ford Mustang Dark Horse is visually enhanced with a carbon-fiber front splitter, carbon-fiber side skirts, and a carbon-fiber rear spoiler.

Production will begin later this year.

The Triumph Motor Company showcases a new electric TR25 concept car, created by design house Makkina.

Unveiled in London, the TR25 pays particular homage to the record-breaking ‘Jabbeke’ Triumph TR2, which broke the land speed record for production cars under two liters in May 1953.

The ‘Jabbeke’ TR2 was a pre-production prototype featuring streamlined parts including an under-shield, rear-wing spats, and a metal cockpit cover.

Makkina’s EV sports car retains the TR’s distinctive headlights with an aerodynamically-optimized exterior, the single-seat configuration with optional flip-out jump seat for the passenger. Using an all-electric BMW i3S as a platform, Makkina has been able to give the TR25 a near 50-50 weight distribution. With a minimalistic interior, the TR25’s cockpit aims to place the driver with minimal instruments and controls. A self-centering dial in the steering wheel displays all vital information while a central binnacle will show road speed, charge levels, and battery range.

The Amelia Concours d’Elegance returns for its 29th iteration from Feb. 29 to March 3 of 2024. And the Broad Arrow Amelia Auction will return as the official auction of The Amelia for 2024. The Amelia Auction will be extended to two days for 2024 (February 29 – March 1) following a successful inaugural event that saw $31 million in total sales and 81 percent of all lots sold. Consignment information is available at broadarrowauctions.com.

The 101st running of the famed Race to the Clouds, an invitational automobile hill climb to the summit of Pikes Peak, is set for Sunday.

The Brumos Collection

And legendary Brumos Racing driver Hurley Haywood will be Pikes Peak Hill Climb grand marshal this year.

If that Brumos news isn’t cool enough, how about a Ford van?

But not just any van – how about an electric Ford SuperVan 4.2 with motorsports legend Romain Dumas at the wheel in his eighth appearance at the event. Specifically designed to conquer America’s mountain and showcase the extreme limits of electric power, Ford said the van underwent a complete aerodynamic redesign – over 4,400 pounds of downforce at 150 mph.

There’s three STARD UHP 6-phase motors and STARD’s Ultra High Performance Li-Polymer NMC pouch cells, one motor powering the front and two in the rear for more than 1,050 kW (1,400 hp).  There’s a revised regenerative braking system with carbon ceramic brake discs, magnesium forged wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero race tires and a minimalist race interior.

Porsche has a vision – to create the fastest road-legal car on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with a power-to-weight ratio of roughly one hp per 2.2 lbs.; more downforce than the current 911 GT3 RS; and that charges roughly twice as quickly as the Taycan Turbo S. This concept, the Mission X, is what Porsche calls “a spectacular, conceptual reinterpretation of a hypercar.”

“The Porsche Mission X is a technology beacon for the sports car of the future. It picks up the torch of iconic sports cars of decades past: like the 959, the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder before it, the Mission X provides critical impetus for the evolutionary development of future vehicle concepts,” says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. “Daring to dream and dream cars are two sides of the same coin for us: Porsche has only remained Porsche by constantly changing.”

It has Le Mans-style doors that open upwards to the front, and an ultra high-performance, efficient electric powertrain. Measuring about 177 inches long and 78.7 inches wide, the Mission X concept study has a wheelbase of 107.4 inches. That’s the dimensions of the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder with staggered tires – 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch at the rear.

It has 900-volt system architecture, the battery installed centrally behind the vehicle’s seats.

Production is to be decided in due time, Porsche said.

A 1937 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 B was chosen as this year’s Best of Show at the 27th annual Greenwich Concours d’Elegance last weekend.

Owned by Lawrence Auriana, this 8C began life as an open wheeled, cycle-fendered race car. It then participated in five races with top results including a 3rd place finish in the 1938 Mille Miglia and a 1st place finish in the 1938 Stelvio Hill Climb – a triumphant completion of its competition career. It was rebodied by Pinin Farina as an elegant road car soon thereafter.

A 1965 Ford GT40 Mk I – 2023 Best of Show – Concours de Sport. Displayed by Benjamin Levy, this GT40, chassis number P/1030, never raced and remains one of the most original in existence. The car was the focus of a famous Ford ad campaign in era and was later used by Ford as design inspiration for the Ford GT built in 2005 and 2006.

“The Northeast has a rich automotive history and we’re proud to celebrate the concours’ place in global car culture,” said McKeel Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty. “The Alfa Romeo 8C selected as best of show embodies the spirit of the world’s best collections — its excellence, elegance and history are worthy of acclaim. Saturday’s Concours de Sport winner, a Ford GT40 Mk I, is equally deserving of praise; an exceptional example of an iconic car.”

Last Saturday’s Concours de Sport featured more than 150 cars in more than 15 judged classes. Classes included including Pre- and Post-War Alfa Romeo, Steam Cars, Post-War American, Italian, German and English cars, Supercars, as well as the Cars of Wayne Carini, this year’s Grand Marshal.

Recent events:

Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge presented by Tire Rack: Race cars built for $2,000 or under, plus some that are allowed as over-budget builds, tackled autocross, dragstrip and a concours last weekend at the famed Gainesville Raceway to see if money really equals speed.

For example, how about a ground-bound 1956 Cessna 310 built by Jeff Bloch, with a Ford EcoBoost mounted midships, making it capable of tire-smoking autocross starts.

Or how about Travis Turner’s 1969 Lotus Europa without the usual Colin Chapman engine – it’s a Toyota 2GR-FE V-6.

Steve Stafford’s IMSA-style race car hid a 1985 Corvette under a truly aerodynamically-designed body with side skirts and serious downforce, the body made from insulation sheets.

Robbie Cutcliffe’s 1965 Datsun 1500 Roadster has a trimmed-down roadster body atop a Formula 440 race car chassis, complete with a screaming stock Honda CBR600 sport bike engine – with chain drive – mounted behind the driver.

And here’s some other specials that raced last weekend:

And finally….

It’s true – Oscar Mayer announced that it was renaming its world-famous Wienermobile after 87 years.

And the new moniker – is “Frankmobile,” to be hot-dogging on streets near you as of right now, all part of a rebranding that the company says “pays homage” to its new all-Beef Franks.

We are told the folks who drive the Frankmobile from event to event, once known as Hotdoggers, are now Frankfurters.

Remember the 1997 BMW Z3 M Coupe, with its Kammback roof and aggressive shape?

Well, BMW premiered its svelte successor – the Concept Touring Coupé – at the recent Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

The closed two-seater, developed for one-off production, reimagined the traditional body shape of an elegant sports car, giving the vehicle a shooting brake look. In the interior, precisely crafted leather surfaces from Italian manufacturer Poltrona Frau. The compartment behind the seats provides ample room to stow luggage also exclusively custom-made at the Schedoni leather workshop in Modena.

“The BMW Concept Touring Coupé celebrates the original Sheer Driving Pleasure,” says Domagoj Dukec, head of BMW Design. “A highly emotional vehicle like this shows that the passion for everything that goes into driving pleasure has been essential through the ages and will be for the future.”

The hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind Coupé is powered by the brand’s six-cylinder in-line engine. The design highlight is its sculpted rear end. Created from the flowing contours of the roof, which merge seamlessly with the rear side panels, the shape accentuates the car’s athletic shoulders, while the flat rear window and clearly defined body surfaces emphasize the vehicle’s solid stance.

The Sparkling Lario exterior paintwork has embedded flakes of blue glass.

The Amelia Concours d’Dlegance returns for its 29th iteration from Feb. 29 to March 3 of 2024. And the Broad Arrow Amelia Auction will return as the official auction of The Amelia for 2024.
