Porsche has a vision – to create the fastest road-legal car on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with a power-to-weight ratio of roughly one hp per 2.2 lbs.; more downforce than the current 911 GT3 RS; and that charges roughly twice as quickly as the Taycan Turbo S. This concept, the Mission X, is what Porsche calls “a spectacular, conceptual reinterpretation of a hypercar.”

“The Porsche Mission X is a technology beacon for the sports car of the future. It picks up the torch of iconic sports cars of decades past: like the 959, the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder before it, the Mission X provides critical impetus for the evolutionary development of future vehicle concepts,” says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. “Daring to dream and dream cars are two sides of the same coin for us: Porsche has only remained Porsche by constantly changing.”

It has Le Mans-style doors that open upwards to the front, and an ultra high-performance, efficient electric powertrain. Measuring about 177 inches long and 78.7 inches wide, the Mission X concept study has a wheelbase of 107.4 inches. That’s the dimensions of the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder with staggered tires – 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch at the rear.

It has 900-volt system architecture, the battery installed centrally behind the vehicle’s seats.

Production is to be decided in due time, Porsche said.

The Amelia concours d’elegance returns for its 29th iteration from Feb. 29 to March 3 of 2024. And the Broad Arrow Amelia Auction will return as the official auction of The Amelia for 2024. The Amelia Auction will be extended to two days for 2024 (February 29 – March 1) following a successful inaugural event that saw $31 million in total sales and 81 percent of all lots sold. Consignment information is available at broadarrowauctions.com.

A 1937 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 B was chosen as this year’s Best of Show at the 27th annual Greenwich Concours d’Elegance last weekend.

Owned by Lawrence Auriana, this 8C began life as an open wheeled, cycle-fendered race car. It then participated in five races with top results including a 3rd place finish in the 1938 Mille Miglia and a 1st place finish in the 1938 Stelvio Hill Climb – a triumphant completion of its competition career. It was rebodied by Pinin Farina as an elegant road car soon thereafter.

A 1965 Ford GT40 Mk I – 2023 Best of Show – Concours de Sport. Displayed by Benjamin Levy, this GT40, chassis number P/1030, never raced and remains one of the most original in existence. The car was the focus of a famous Ford ad campaign in era and was later used by Ford as design inspiration for the Ford GT built in 2005 and 2006.

“The Northeast has a rich automotive history and we’re proud to celebrate the concours’ place in global car culture,” said McKeel Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty. “The Alfa Romeo 8C selected as best of show embodies the spirit of the world’s best collections — its excellence, elegance and history are worthy of acclaim. Saturday’s Concours de Sport winner, a Ford GT40 Mk I, is equally deserving of praise; an exceptional example of an iconic car.”

Last Saturday’s Concours de Sport featured more than 150 cars in more than 15 judged classes. Classes included including Pre- and Post-War Alfa Romeo, Steam Cars, Post-War American, Italian, German and English cars, Supercars, as well as the Cars of Wayne Carini, this year’s Grand Marshal.

Recent events:

Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge presented by Tire Rack: Race cars built for $2,000 or under, plus some that are allowed as over-budget builds, tackled autocross, dragstrip and a concours last weekend at the famed Gainesville Raceway to see if money really equals speed.

For example, how about a ground-bound 1956 Cessna 310 built by Jeff Bloch, with a Ford EcoBoost mounted midships, making it capable of tire-smoking autocross starts.

Or how about Travis Turner’s 1969 Lotus Europa without the usual Colin Chapman engine – it’s a Toyota 2GR-FE V-6.

Steve Stafford’s IMSA-style race car hid a 1985 Corvette under a truly aerodynamically-designed body with side skirts and serious downforce, the body made from insulation sheets.

Robbie Cutcliffe’s 1965 Datsun 1500 Roadster has a trimmed-down roadster body atop a Formula 440 race car chassis, complete with a screaming stock Honda CBR600 sport bike engine – with chain drive – mounted behind the driver.

And here’s some other specials that raced last weekend:

And finally….

It’s true – Oscar Mayer announced that it was renaming its world-famous Wienermobile after 87 years.

And the new moniker – is “Frankmobile,” to be hot-dogging on streets near you as of right now, all part of a rebranding that the company says “pays homage” to its new all-Beef Franks.

We are told the folks who drive the Frankmobile from event to event, once known as Hotdoggers, are now Frankfurters.

Remember the 1997 BMW Z3 M Coupe, with its Kammback roof and aggressive shape?

Well, BMW premiered its svelte successor – the Concept Touring Coupé – at the recent Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

The closed two-seater, developed for one-off production, reimagined the traditional body shape of an elegant sports car, giving the vehicle a shooting brake look. In the interior, precisely crafted leather surfaces from Italian manufacturer Poltrona Frau. The compartment behind the seats provides ample room to stow luggage also exclusively custom-made at the Schedoni leather workshop in Modena.

“The BMW Concept Touring Coupé celebrates the original Sheer Driving Pleasure,” says Domagoj Dukec, head of BMW Design. “A highly emotional vehicle like this shows that the passion for everything that goes into driving pleasure has been essential through the ages and will be for the future.”

The hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind Coupé is powered by the brand’s six-cylinder in-line engine. The design highlight is its sculpted rear end. Created from the flowing contours of the roof, which merge seamlessly with the rear side panels, the shape accentuates the car’s athletic shoulders, while the flat rear window and clearly defined body surfaces emphasize the vehicle’s solid stance.

The Sparkling Lario exterior paintwork has embedded flakes of blue glass.

The Amelia Concours d’Dlegance returns for its 29th iteration from Feb. 29 to March 3 of 2024. And the Broad Arrow Amelia Auction will return as the official auction of The Amelia for 2024. And finally….

You’ve heard of the Boss Mustang, and maybe Boss Hog – how about The Boss’s Chevelle?

The 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Convertible once owned by The Boss himself – Bruce Springsteen – goes on the block during Mecum’s Auction at the Indiana State Fairgrounds May 12 to 20. The Chevelle, one of 3,000 up for auction, now presents in the configuration described by Springsteen in his hit song “Racing in the Streets,” which appeared on his 1978 hit album “Darkness on the Edge of Town.”

A notable exception, Mecums says, is found in the fact that the song describes the engine as “a 396 [with] Fuelie heads.” Chevelle fans know that’s an incompatible combination.

Sales estimate – $150,000 to $200,000.

It does have a 396 CI V-8 with 4-speed manual with Hurst shifter, done in Le Mans Blue with white interior.

It was owned by Bruce Springsteen from 1981 until 1987, when it was gifted to Toby Scott, who worked as a recording engineer or mixer on over 18 of his albums. It was rotisserie restored between 1988 and 2020, putting the car into the condition described in the lyrics of Springsteen’s song “Racing in the Streets.” Delivered to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, it was displayed with the surfboard that Bruce would put in the back when going to the beach in New Jersey. There’s a signed letter from Bruce regarding his ownership of the car, a document from Bruce’s mechanic describing acquiring the car for Bruce and a picture of the license plate the car wore when registered to Bruce.

And finally….

Hennessey goes 6×6 for its Ford F-150 Raptor R – as in six-wheel-drive supertruck called – ‘VelociRaptoR 6×6’.

Using a third-generation Ford F-150 Raptor R as its foundation, it has an extended boxed frame and a second, fully functional, locking rear axle – tractive grip is improved by more than 50 percent. The suspension features live valve Fox dampers, and Brembo performance brakes ensure strong stopping power. A three-inch lift raises the body in preparation for Hennessey’s custom 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 37-inch off-road tires. Lastly, an 8-foot (2.4 meters) long load bed replaces the stock 5.5-foot (1.67-meter) bed – cargo capacity is improved by more than 45 percent.

“The supercharged V8 in the Raptor R perfectly complements our limited edition ‘VelociRaptoR 6×6’ package,” says CEO John Hennessey. “The upgrade boosts traction and improves utility, which makes the 6×6 practical and functional. It’s a real blast to drive – I consider it a go- anywhere supertruck with head-turning stage presence!”

Complementing the mechanical upgrades are new front and rear bumpers, LED lights, and Hennessey VelociRaptoR badging. The resulting ‘VelociRaptoR 6×6’ is a beastly machine nearly 27 feet long, roughly 7 feet tall, and 7 feet wide – with a curb weight of approximately 6,500 pounds. And power – a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8, untouched, with 700 hp @ 6,650 rpm and 640 lb-ft torque @ 4,250 rpm.

Hennessey has made a range of 6×6 trucks, including the RAM-based MAMMOTH 6×6 TRX and Chevrolet-based Goliath 6×6 Silverado.

Hennessey introduces a 500 hp VelociRaptor 500 Bronco Raptor with a 20 percent power boost over the factory rating via upgrades to the 3-liter EcoBoost V-6. Hennessey, the Texas-based hypercar manufacturer and high-performance vehicle creator, has begun customer deliveries of its new VelociRaptor 500 Bronco Raptor, following cold weather testing in the snowy mountains of Colorado. It has a new high-capacity intercooler and proprietary engine management system tuning improve charge cooling and increase intake boost to enhance output. There’s upgraded 4×4, fitted with Hennessey’s unique 20-inch alloy wheels and 37-inch off-road tires. Priced from $28,950, the VelociRaptor 500 package features enhanced air induction, a high-capacity intercooler with a blow-off valve, and an upgraded engine-management system to boost the performance of its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine.

Gordon Murray Automotive introduced the open-topped V-12 T.33 Spider with two removable roof panels, a deployable rear window and the naturally-aspirated Cosworth GMA.2 V-12 behind the cabin. Developed in parallel with the T.33 and sharing the same Ultralight carbon fibre monocoque construction, the T.33 Spider has torsional stiffness for outstanding ride, handling and agility without unnecessary weight.

“When drawing a car I imagine what it’s going to feel like to sit in, and how it will feel to drive,” Gordon Murray said. “So from the first sketch I knew that, with its open cockpit and the incredible Cosworth GMA.2 V12 engine right behind you, the T.33 Spider would deliver a truly involving driving experience that’s quite unlike anything else. And while it’s still a mid-engine supercar, I wouldn’t accept any compromise on usability: this is why the T.33 Spider is unique in the supercar sector in delivering both onboard roof storage and a 295 liter luggage capacity.”

The fixed section of the roof features buttresses which blend into the rear deck, behind which are louvres which further aid engine cooling. The ram induction airbox, mounted directly to the engine itself and a hallmark feature of the T.33, becomes even more distinctive on the Spider, especially when the roof panels are removed. There’s a carbon fiber steering wheel trimmed in leather, gear shift lever and switchgear machined from aluminum alloy.

And finally….

Acura today announced its 2024 Integra Type S will launch this summer with 320 horsepower, 310 lb.-ft. of torque and class-leading power-to-weight ratio from a race-proven, high-revving 2-liter VTEC turbocharged engine with a short-throw 6-speed manual transmission.

The 2024 Integra Type S will be officially revealed next month ahead of the 48th annual Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Dodge is introducing the quickest, fastest and most powerful muscle car in the world – the 1,025-hp Challenger SRT Demon 170, the brand’s seventh and final “Last Call” special-edition model. With its 945 lb.-ft. of torque (at 4,200 rpm) production HEMI® engine, the Demon 170 reaches 60 mph in 1.66 seconds, and features the highest G-force acceleration of any production car at 2.004 gs. The Demon 170 can also reach 900 horsepower and 810 lb.-ft. of torque on E10 fuel.

The Demon 170 is the quickest vehicle ever produced in the brand’s 100-plus-year history, Dodge says. It is the first factory production car to run the quarter-mile under nine seconds with a National Hot Rod Association (NHRA)-certified 8.91-second ET at 151.17 mph. On the drag strip, the Challenger SRT Demon 170 receives an NHRA violation letter for running a sub-nine-second quarter-mile without a safety cage or parachute, following in the footsteps of the original Demon, which was also banned from NHRA quarter miles.
“To celebrate the end of the HEMI muscle-car era, we pulled off all the governors to reach a new level, a new benchmark of ‘factory-crazy’ production car performance,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge brand chief executive officer – Stellantis. “In 2015, Dodge shocked the world with the 707-horsepower Hellcat. Then, in 2018, we did it with the 840-horsepower Demon, and now we are doing it again with the 1,025-horsepower Demon 170, the world’s first sustainable-energy, eight-second, factory-production, street-legal muscle car.”

Dodge “Last Call” vehicles commemorate the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger, which are coming to an end in their current HEMI-engine-powered forms at the end of 2023. Six special-edition “Last Call” vehicles were previously introduced, leading up to the reveal of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 – Dodge Challenger Shakedown, Dodge Charger Super Bee, Dodge Challenger and Charger Scat Pack Swinger, Dodge Charger King Daytona and Dodge Challenger Black Ghost.

And here’s another last call – after nine model years in the market, the sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro will retire at the conclusion of model year 2024.The final sixth generation Camaros will come off the assembly line at the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant in Michigan in January 2024.

Available in coupe and soft-top convertible variants, this latest generation Camaro Collector’s Edition package is available on the 2024 Camaro RS and SS, and on a limited number of ZL1 equipped vehicles available in North America. The Collector’s Edition pays homage to Camaro, resurfacing ties that date back to the development of the first generation Camaro in the 1960s, most notably the program’s initial code name: Panther.

More information on the 2024 Camaro line and Collector’s Edition package will be available closer to the start of orders this summer.

If you cannot afford some of The Amelia’s auction cars, how about the LEGO Speed Champions – McLaren’s Solus GT & F1 LM?:

As McLaren marks its 60th anniversary, the supercar maker has teamed up with the LEGO Group to release the first-ever double pack of LEGO Speed Champions featuring two of McLaren’s most iconic supercars. Both LEGO creations pay homage to McLaren’s technical innovation and design language with authentic details from the real-life cars, including the Papaya Orange color of the F1 LM, its central driving seat position, and cooling ducts. Born from a virtual gaming world concept, the Solus GT – also with its striking central single-seat cockpit design and high-downforce rear wing – is a perfect addition for any McLaren supercar enthusiast.

The 581-piece set also features two LEGO minifigure drivers in their his and hers McLaren “race suits.”

“We aim to inspire LEGO vehicle fans of all ages with new and unique building experiences, every time we expand the Speed Champions Collection. This launch is another great example of this long-standing partnership,” said Goran Ozbolt, Chief Designer, McLaren Automotive.

Each one is $34.99.
