Bugatti has broken another world top-speed record with the W16 Mistral² World Record Car, setting a new top-speed world record for an open-top car, at 453.91 km/h. Done at ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg in Germany, this chapter in the automotive history books was opened with the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse with the roof down, open to the elemental force of air.

Andy Wallace – Bugatti Pilote Officiel and winner of the Le Mans 24 Hours – assumed the controls of the one-off W16 Mistral World Record Car, warming up the vehicle’s bespoke high-performance tires as the historic moment arrived.

Andy increased the speed before unleashing the full power as the straight opened up coming off the banking, taking it to new heights of record-speed.

“Throughout the testing program leading up to this moment, it was incredible to feel how stable the car felt – I got the sense that it wanted to go faster,” explained Wallace. “And when it came to the moment itself, the experience was overwhelmingly thrilling; feeling the elemental forces from the open-top cockpit, the sound of the immense W16 engine emanating from the air scoops next to my ear – it made the achievement incredibly emotional. A record like this pushes the boundaries of automotive innovation, and requires immense focus, dedication, and teamwork to realize. It’s a true testament to the passion that everyone at Bugatti has for making history.”

With hints of its 1990s Portofino concept, as well as current and imminent Dodge Charger, Chrysler today unveiled its Halcyon Concept, showing off a possible EV future for the brand that embraces sustainability-driven exterior and interior design, full autonomy paired with personalized driving experiences and futuristic technology.

“The Chrysler Halcyon Concept creates a level of serenity that fully represents the Halcyon name. The Halcyon showcases innovative and sustainable mobility solutions that embrace technology and offer value to customers while delivering Harmony in Motion,” said Chris Feuell, Chrysler brand CEO – Stellantis. “The Chrysler Halcyon Concept brings to life a fully electric tomorrow through new technology suites from Stellantis that integrate with simple and pure aerodynamic design and a seamless, connected and immersive cockpit experience.”

The Halcyon is the latest in a progression of futuristic concepts representing the brand’s electrification transformation. Previously, the brand revealed the Chrysler Portal Concept in 2017, the Chrysler Airflow Concept in 2022 and the Chrysler Synthesis Cockpit Demonstrator in 2023.

Chrysler will launch the brand’s first battery-electric vehicle in 2025, and will feature an all-electric portfolio in 2028. The Chrysler Halcyon Concept reinforces the brand’s commitment to the Stellantis Dare Forward 2030 plan, which cultivates the electrified and more efficient propulsion systems that will enable Stellantis to cut its global carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 and to lead the transportation industry by achieving net carbon zero by 2038.

The Chrysler Halcyon Concept, designed on the STLA Large platform, offers an aerodynamic, streamlined and uncompromising vision of the Chrysler brand’s future exterior character. The concept’s combination of seamless technology and battery-electric performance work in harmony with a pure, streamlined exterior design that ingeniously embeds aerodynamic elements.

Dramatic sculptural styling starts at the front of the futuristic four-door Halcyon, with the body plunging to within four inches of the road. A subtle-yet-functional front air blade aerodynamic pass-through area enhances performance and all-important BEV range capability. The pass-through is visible from the cockpit, providing the driver a real-world connection with the concept’s performance and functionality.

Aston Martin presented its new race cars this week, unveiling three on the same day.

Fittingly unveiled on the day that the marque’s AMR24 Formula 1 challenger first touched the tarmac at the home of British motorsport, the new Vantage is the quintessential Aston Martin sports car and the most driver focused and fastest Vantage in the nameplate’s history. Having been introduced in the year of the first World Championship Formula One race at Silverstone in 1950, the 74-year history of Vantage runs side-by-side with that of the famous circuit that Aston Martin’s team now calls home at the cutting-edge AMR Technology Campus.

Engineered for real drivers, Vantage’s authentic, unadulterated celebration of pure performance, technically crafted to deliver maximum thrills with maximum confidence, sits naturally alongside the marque’s visceral challenger for the 2024 FIA Formula One World Championship. Both cars represent Aston Martin’s ambition to be a leader in high-performance technologies and on track, with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team seeking to build on its best-ever season in 2023, claiming nine podiums and 280 Championship points under the expert control of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll.

Between these two weapons of road and track sits the Vantage GT3 racer, inspired by the production sports car whose famous name it shall boldly carry to some of the world’s most prestigious endurance events including the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2024.

The 911 Carrera RS 3.8 that featured “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts joins a cast of legendary cars on display at Rennsport Reunion 7, set for Sept. 28 – Oct. 1, at WeatherTech Raceway at Laguna Seca. Fans will be able to get up close to the Porsche, plus The Autobot, Optimus Prime and Optimus Primal, while also seeing a special screening of the film.
“We are thrilled to bring the hero car, the 911 Carrera RS 3.8, to our family reunion in Monterey this September,” said Ayesha Coker, Vice President of Marketing of Porsche Cars North America. “We’re grateful to the Porsche Classic team that has been able to preserve an important piece of Porsche history – resurrecting the vehicle post-filming to make it functional again. And there is no better place to show it off than Rennsport Reunion 7 – the world’s largest Porsche gathering.”

Porsche only built 55 of the Carrera RS 3.8, making it an exceptionally rare historic car. To avoid the risk of damage, no original model was used in filming. Instead, five picture cars were built that superficially replicate the 911 Carrera RS 3.8 models. Yet, to create an authentic engine sound for Mirage, a real 911 RS 3.8 was recorded so the film could be as accurate as possible.

Bentley Motors presents a new 6-in-1 Mulliner Tricycle, created to grow alongside a child in true Bentley style. It has a new seat developed specifically for this trike with added soft inserts, the design following Mullliner’s well-known diamond-in-diamond handmade quilting, a Bentley badge stitched on the soft headrest. The tricycle’s air-pumped wheels follow the Mulliner wheel design, a Bentley logo in the middle surrounded by the ‘Bentley Mulliner’ wording. The wheel-center cap ensures the ‘B’ badge is always in the motionless upright position, even when the trike is riding. It also includes a chrome emblem at the hood of the trike, a diamond-in-diamond quilted push handle bag, and a unique color: White Sand.

The trike seats a child from six months old to upwards of five years , with a magnetic buckle combined with elastic 5-point belt and even a retractable sun canopy. Price £595, or about $734, at shop.bentleymotors.com.

The stars of Disney and Pixar’s “Cars” will reunite at Rennsport Reunion 7 between Sept. 28 and Oct. 1st at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The full size Sally Carrera and Lightning McQueen now call the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, and the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles their respective homes. For this event, the two museums have loaned Sally and Lightning to allow them to be brought together once again.
“You can’t have a celebration of motorsport and Porsche without Lightning McQueen and Sally Carrera!” explains Jay Ward, Creative Director of Franchise of Pixar Animation Studios. “The life size cars were created back in 2006 for the premiere of the original Cars movie, held at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte. Sally was made from a real 996-generation 911 and actually runs and drives. Sally and Lightning often travelled together to celebrate key moments and they got to see a lot of the world as new “Cars” movies were launched. In the past decade, though, they’ve been on display far apart, an even on different continents – it’s wonderful that they’re being reunited at Rennsport after so many years.”
Both Ward and Cars production designer, Bob Pauley (who originally designed Sally over 20 years ago) will be attending the Rennsport Reunion 7.
The one-off 911, equipped with dozens of unique parts and finishes created in collaboration between Pixar and Porsche, sold for $3.6 million at the Sotheby’s auction at Monterey. Every dollar of the sale price was split between Girls Inc. and the UNHCR, respectively providing help and educational support to young girls across America and aid to children and families as a result of the war in Ukraine. More information about Rennsport, and how to obtain tickets, can be found here.

The Amelia concours d’elegance returns for its 29th iteration from Feb. 29 to March 3 of 2024. And the Broad Arrow Amelia Auction will return as the official auction of The Amelia for 2024. The Amelia Auction will be extended to two days for 2024 (February 29 – March 1) following a successful inaugural event that saw $31 million in total sales and 81 percent of all lots sold. Consignment information is available at broadarrowauctions.com.

Porsche has a vision – to create the fastest road-legal car on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with a power-to-weight ratio of roughly one hp per 2.2 lbs.; more downforce than the current 911 GT3 RS; and that charges roughly twice as quickly as the Taycan Turbo S. This concept, the Mission X, is what Porsche calls “a spectacular, conceptual reinterpretation of a hypercar.”

“The Porsche Mission X is a technology beacon for the sports car of the future. It picks up the torch of iconic sports cars of decades past: like the 959, the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder before it, the Mission X provides critical impetus for the evolutionary development of future vehicle concepts,” says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. “Daring to dream and dream cars are two sides of the same coin for us: Porsche has only remained Porsche by constantly changing.”

It has Le Mans-style doors that open upwards to the front, and an ultra high-performance, efficient electric powertrain. Measuring about 177 inches long and 78.7 inches wide, the Mission X concept study has a wheelbase of 107.4 inches. That’s the dimensions of the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder with staggered tires – 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch at the rear.

It has 900-volt system architecture, the battery installed centrally behind the vehicle’s seats.

Production is to be decided in due time, Porsche said.

The Amelia concours d’elegance returns for its 29th iteration from Feb. 29 to March 3 of 2024. And the Broad Arrow Amelia Auction will return as the official auction of The Amelia for 2024. And finally…

We have told you that Jacksonville’s Brumos racing is returning for a special competition on June 26 –  Hill Climb, aka The Race to the Clouds. And we have shown you an artist rendering of the Porsche GT2 RS Clubsport that will compete in the invitational hill climb to the summit of Pikes Peak, Colo.

   Courtesy: The Brumos Collection

Here’s what the car looked like when brought to BBI Autosport, which is preparing the car for past Brumos driver David Donohue to wheel up the mountain course.

Now here’s what it’s looking like now in the in the iconic Brumos 59 red, white, and blue livery for what is the first competition for the racing team since 2013. That is when it retired from 50 years of competition.

Courtesy: The Brumos Collection

The Jacksonville-based dealership was sold in 2016, but the iconic race cars that Brumos drivers like Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood campaigned at Le Mans, Daytona and elsewhere are now on display at the new Brumos Collection, along with some amazing Indy race cars, and some concours-quality classics.

The collection opened in 2020 to the public at 5959 San Pablo Road S. And word is that when the latest No. 59 screams up the peak, it has an honored spot at the 35,000 sq. ft. interactive museum.
