To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Tignanello red win, Maserati crafted a customized Fuoriserie version of its EV GranCabrio Folgore. Created for Marchesi Antinori, it will be auctioned, on July 14 at Festival Napa Valley’s Arts for All Gala.

The inspiration for this car arises from the vineyard. To craft a car that epitomizes the characteristics and values of Marchesi Antinori and Tignanello, Maserati has researched the uniqueness that surrounds the history of this wine and it has paid homage to the Florentine family of winemakers through the colors, shades, innovative materials and refined artisan details that make GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello an ode in motion to the prestigious Tignanello vineyard and to the 50 years of this wine.

The exteriors of GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello is a chestnut color inspired by the vineyard’s soil, warmed by a coppery burgundy reminiscent of the central red shades of Tignanello’s characteristic barriques. It has a rich, metallic tint. The rims and calipers come in matte and gloss black respectively, whereas the emblems are colored copper, with the Maserati logo in glossy copper on a gloss background. The soft top fabric is also black.

The seats feature leather embellished with a multi-material silver and burgundy ribbed weave, made of Vegea, an innovative spreadable fabric derived from the vineyards. It recalls the pattern of the rows of vines on the Tignanello hill, marked out by the Albarese rocks in their midst. The fabric looks and feels like leather, and it is used for the first time in a Maserati car. And the dark briar wood with lasering was selected to recall the printing burned into the oak barrels.

This famous 1957 Ferrari 335 S is going to late August’s Salon Privé Concours at England’s Blenheim Palace. The 335 S starred in the epic 1957 World Sports Car Championship, powered by Ferrari’s first four-cam engine – two camshafts per bank, and 24 spark plugs, 12 for each 60-degrree vee.

Photo: Salon Privé Concours

This Ferrari started out as a 290 MM Spyder Scaglietti, chassis number ‘0626,’ and driven by Juan Manuel Fangio in the 1956 Mille Miglia, where it finished fourth. It was converted to a 315 S Barchetta after the Swedish GP, with a 3.8-litre version of the new engine. It first raced in 315 S guise in the 1957 Sebring 12 Hours, with drivers Peter Collins and Maurice Trintignant setting the pace early on and eventually finishing sixth. For the 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, the car was uprated to its current 335 S guise. Mike Hawthorn and Luigi Musso raced, but it didn’t finish due to an engine problem.

Later, the car was modified by Scaglietti to a ‘pontoon’ style, in order to improve brake cooling, for the season finale in sweltering Caracas. Ferrari duly finished 1-2-3-4 in the race, with ‘0674’ driven by Hawthorn and Luigi Musso following home the winning duo of Peter Collins and Phil Hill. Sold to Luigi Chinetti’s NART operation, it was raced, then ended up in collections before restoration , its current American owner securing it in 2005 for just over $35 million. This Ferrari 335 S was also examined prior to the new Michael Mann epic, ‘Ferrari,’ with replicas made based on it.

This Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck EV zipped to the clouds during the 102nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, notching a time of 8:53.553 – fastest among 61 competitors. This result comes just days after the truck set a new qualifying record for the open class with a time of 3:32.831, more than seven seconds faster than the previous record of 3:39.939 set by the Ford Performance SuperVan 4.2 in 2023.

“The progression of Ford electric vehicles taking on and completing the toughest challenges is a major testament to the hard work and dedication our teams have put into the program,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports. “We learned a great deal from SuperVan 4.2 in last year’s Pikes Peak International Hill climb and were able to apply that knowledge to this year’s run. It’s onward and upward from here.”

Driver Romain Dumas overcame a technical issue during the climb, coming to a complete stop on the course. That stop added about 26 seconds compared to his initial qualifying time. Quick thinking from Dumas helped to minimize the issue, as the Frenchman completely reset the 1,600-horsepower F-150 Lightning SuperTruck and continued his climb.

“I’m honored to achieve this victory with Ford Performance at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb,” Dumas said. “Everything about this event is a challenge because it is unlike any other form of racing, you only have one shot. We faced a challenge early on but that only gave me more determination to make up the lost time in the rest of the run.”

Supercar Xperiences – Dec. 13 to 15 – YOUR turn to get behind the wheel of a fleet of exotic cars at The FIRM’s 1.5-mile race track at 7266 Airport Road in Starke . Prices do not include Track Insurance (Starting at $39 per Car) which is required for drivers.

Wait, there’s more…

Hispano Suiza unveiled its Carmen Sagrera, the third model in its range of electric hypercars, celebrating the brand’s 120th anniversary.

This new hypercar features an updated design and the brand’s second generation of batteries, with a total capacity of 103 kWh from lithium-ion cell packs: 15 modules of 24 cells each, which can operate at a maximum voltage of over 750VDC. This brings the total range to almost 300 miles, according to the WLTP cycle.

Its pointed grille shape pays homage to the Hispano Suiza Alfonso XIII sports cars of the early 20th century. New side sills rise along the car’s profile, complementing the rear panel’s design. The rear-end underwent significant design and aerodynamic changes, highlighted by the addition of a large spoiler resembling stork wings, a tribute to the brand’s logo.

The Sagrera features four 205 kW (around 275 hp) motors, delivering a combined power output of 1,100 hp and 1,160 Nm of torque, with a 0 to 60 mph time of about 2.6 seconds. The motors are axial-flux permanent magnet and connected in series: two on the left rear wheel and two on the right.

Farewell Godzilla: Nissan announced the closing chapter of its legendary R35 generation of the Nissan GT-R with the introduction of two limited-production special editions.

Building on the changes already announced for the 2024 GT-R, the T-spec Takumi Edition and Skyline Edition will pay homage to the performance vehicle that has been an icon of the Nissan lineup since its 2007 debut. After more than 17 years of thrilling fans and exhilarating drivers, GT-R production for the North American market will sunset in October. Since its launch, the R35 GT-R has delivered supercar-rivaling performance and excitement for a supercar-beating price tag, engaging a new generation of automotive enthusiasts in the U.S., and showing many more expensive sports cars its taillights on the racetrack.

Pricing for the 2024 Nissan GT-R limited editions will start at $151,090 for T-spec Takumi Edition, and $131,090 for Skyline Edition. Both models are expected to arrive at select U.S. Nissan dealers this summer. Fewer than 200 units will be available.

The GT-R T-spec Takumi Edition honors the eponymous takumi master craftspeople responsible for hand-assembling each GT-R VR38DETT engine. The engine badge will feature red-etched writing, and the engine bay will house a gold VIN plate. The red engine badge signifies an elevated level of attention to precise engine tolerances and component balancing during assembly of the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6.

Additionally, the T-spec Takumi Edition gets a Midnight Purple paint job – a reference to some of the Skyline/GT-R line’s most iconic special editions. The interior trim is also finished in exclusive Mori Green.

The GT-R Skyline Edition references the abundant beauty found in skylines across Japan. Building on GT-R Premium, it wears Bayside Blue paint and features a new Sora Blue interior color scheme.

Wait, there’s more…

McLaren has produced a short film featuring Justin Bell and Jay Leno, showcasing the capabilities of the new McLaren 750S, some 30 years after Bell’s historic drive in the McLaren F1 GTR at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The film highlights the precision and technology of the current 750S, while celebrating the legacy of the McLaren F1 GTR and its success at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which was piloted to a podium by Justin Bell, Derek Bell and co-driver Andy Wallace.

In the film, Leno also showcases his personal McLaren F1, renowned for its groundbreaking design and performance. This crossover bridges the gap between McLaren’s storied racing history, and today’s supercar.

Said Bell of the capabilities of the 750S: “(With the F1) I had a six-speed manual, just over 600 horsepower. I had to be so delicate with the manual shift gauge. And yet here, I have these electrifying, downshifts, upshifts, from the seven-speed gearbox, that I could’ve only dreamed about back then!”

Bell continues: “You know how they say that the Apollo 13 mission ran on technology inferior to a modern-day iPhone? If that’s the case, then my F1 GTR from 1995, was a British red phone box, and this is a supercomputer.”

Leno, a legendary automobile collector and former late-night television host, said of the 750S: “I’m so impressed with McLaren as a car company because you really do feel your one with the car when you’re in there. The difference is really in driving it. … How is it different from other cars? Well, when you drive you really can tell.”

Wait, there’s more…

Some significant classic Lamborghini models participated in the 2024 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este – four cars produced in Sant’Agata Bolognese.

A 1967 Miura P400 was on show in Cernobbio in Class D, titled “Faster! The Arms Race On The Road.”

Class H, called “The Need For Speed: Supercar Stars of The Video Generation,” included a 1976 Countach LP 400, a Countach 25th Anniversary, and a 1999 Diablo GT.

The selection encompassed a period of more than 30 years, involving all the most iconic V-12 engined models produced in that period. It is also the first time the young-timer Diablo has been shown at Villa d’Este, confirming the increasing appreciation of this model as a classic car and sought-after by collectors.

Morgan Motor Company and Pininfarina have collaborated to reinterpret the timeless Morgan silhouette. The result is the Midsummer, a 50-only limited edition built to celebrate Morgan’s 115-year coachbuilding philosophy and Pininfarina’s 95-year tradition of crafting bespoke vehicles. They have all been sold already.

The Midsummer name was chosen because it is the height of the summer, a season which provides optimal weather conditions to experience an open-top barchetta. The collaboration emerged from a desire by Morgan to create limited-run specials, based on its CX-Generation Bonded Aluminum Platform – and the Plus Six has a base price of $115,800

The light weight of the bonded aluminum chassis means the Plus Six tips the scales at just 1,145 kg, while the Midsummer has a target dry weight of just 1,000 kg by the time it sees production.

Wait, there’s more…

The Petersen Automotive Museum’s largest and most comprehensive lowrider exhibit, “Best in Low: Lowrider Icons of the Street and Show,” is now open in the Mullin Grand Salon. The new exhibition features more than 30 lowrider vehicles, including cars, bicycles and motorcycles, as well as custom art and small-scale model lowriders.

“Best in Low: Lowrider Icons of the Street and Show” highlights the unique identity and creativity of lowrider culture by showcasing the intricate craftsmanship that goes into creating these mobile masterpieces. The display also spotlights the techniques that have become a hallmark of the lowrider scene, including custom paint, engraving, gravity-defying suspension and plush upholstery.

Vehicles on display include one of the world’s most famous lowriders, the 1964 Chevrolet Impala known as “Gypsy Rose.” The iconic ride earned its initial notoriety in the 1970s television sitcom “Chico and the Man.” In 2017, Gypsy Rose became the first lowrider to be inducted into the National Historic Vehicle Registry.

Other notable lowriders include the 1958 Chevrolet Impala convertible “Final Score” and 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air “Double Trouble,” both three-time Lowrider Magazine Lowrider of the Year award winners, as well as the 1958 Chevrolet Impala “Dead Presidents,” built by Albert De Alba Sr. and Albert De Alba Jr., who are among the most established and respected craftsmen in the lowrider community. The exhibit also features the 1954 Chevrolet 210 Sedan “Sphinx,” an influential car in the Japanese lowriding community, and the “Twisted Toy” bicycle, a three-time Lowrider Magazine Bicycle of the Year, plus numerous other iconic and award-winning lowrider cars, motorcycles, bicycles and more.

Wait, there’s more…

Bentley revealed its third coach-built car of the modern era – the Batur Convertible. Created by Mulliner, Bentley’s in house bespoke division, the Batur Convertible follows the Bacalar barchetta and Batur coupe. With the Batur Convertible, Mulliner continues its long tradition of crafting truly individual cars, tailored to the wishes of each of its extraordinary clients.
The Batur Convertible retains the most powerful version of Bentley’s iconic W12, with a 740 hp from a hand-assembled 6-liter, twin-turbocharged engine. With the engine to finish production this summer, the Batur Convertible will be one of the last ever Bentleys to use this powertrain.

Designers chose to highlight the two-seater character with a ‘wraparound’ cockpit inspired by the design of the Bacalar. The dramatic ‘airbridge’ behind the seats and tapered cowls at the rear hark back to the barchetta sports cars of old, the airbridge and tapered cowls also providing a semi-enclosed luggage compartment behind the two front seats.

The convertible roof can be deployed or stowed in just 19 seconds, up to 30 mph.

In the cabin, the highly exclusive option of 3D printed rose gold includes key driver touch points, such as the Bentley Drive Mode Selector, encircling the start/stop button and used to change chassis modes. the 22” wheels – with the spokes in Gloss and Satin Black Titanium with Vermillion Gloss accents.

Oh yes – pricing is about $2.1 million.

If anyone knows how to resto-mod a classic Jaguar XJ, it’s England’s TWR.

And this carbon fiber silhouette, designed by Khyzyl Saleem in collaboration with Magnus Walker is called the TWR Supercat, with in excess of 600bhp from a supercharged V-12. It’s got a 6-speed manual gearbox – limited to 88 units, prices start at $282,000, available in the UK and major international markets including the USA.

That 88 individual builds is a number chosen to celebrate the 1988 Le Mans win in the TWR Jaguar XJR-9.
