Jacksonville Car Culture events calendar:

The next Caffeine & Octane is set for 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, at The Avenues mall at 10300 Southside Blvd.


It’s the annual toy drive for Wolfson Children’s Hospital – they will be collecting new, unwrapped toys to benefit Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Bring the toy to the checkered C&O tent.

The Mercedes-Benz Club of America Southern Stars is the First Coast Car Council Car Club of the Month for December – all Mercedes-Benz owners (club members or not) can  join them in their Car Club Feature Area.

Gentle reminders – All vehicles parked in the Central Lot must remain in place until the show concludes. If you cannot stay until then, please park in the exhibit lot. Those parking in the Exotics Lot and the Porsche Corner are free to arrive and leave at any time. And FYI – some spots have been taken up by a holiday child’s entertainment zone, so C&O moves a bit down the lot for the duration.

Wait, there’s more…

The Ford Mustang GTD fulfilled a sub-7-minute Nürburgring promise, completing a lap of the 12.9-mile, 73-turn “Green Hell” in 6:57.685 – only the sixth stock, production sports car to complete an officially certified sub-seven-minute lap and the fifth fastest in the production sports car class according to the Nürburgring’s records

The run is featured in The Road to the Ring, a 13-minute documentary film airing now, showing the first car from an American brand to complete a lap in under seven minutes.

Driven by Multimatic Motorsports driver Dirk Müller, the 815-hp Mustang GTD ‘s time delivers on the goal laid out by CEO Jim Farley at the Mustang GTD’s debut in August 2023. 

“The team behind Mustang GTD took what we’ve learned from decades on the track and engineered a Mustang that can compete with the world’s best supercars,” said Farley in a news release. “We’re proud to be the first American automaker with a car that can lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes, but we aren’t satisfied. We know there’s much more time to find with Mustang GTD. We’ll be back.”

Mustang GTD’s Nürburgring success is due to the work of a small, dedicated team of engineers and designers who worked tirelessly over the course of two years to turn the Mustang GT3 race car into the first-ever Mustang supercar. However, Mustang GTD isn’t subject to the rules and regulations of GT3 racing, which prohibit much of the technology that allow a sub-seven-minute Nürburgring lap.

That includes carbon-ceramic brakes, active aerodynamics, a supercharger, and semi-active suspension. A carbon-fiber body is familiar from GT3 racing, and while the Mustang GTD that completed the sub-seven-minute lap was entirely stock, it did include motorsports-derived safety gear mandated by the Nürburgring. That includes a competition seat with a five-point harness and a roll cage.

Hagerty announced its 2025 U.S. Bull Market list, enthusiast vehicles the company expects to increase in value over the next year. Hagerty Automotive Intelligence analyzed data from public and private sales, along with historic trends and insurance valuations to narrow down the list to 11 special vehicles.

“It’s a common misconception that fun cars have to be expensive,” said Hagerty senior editor Larry Webster said in a news release. “Our Bull Market list provides options for enthusiasts of all interests that will cost little to own. Yet it’s not the cost, but the machines that get us excited. No one looks back at their bank account with fond memories – they look back at those weekend drives, family road trips and evenings in the garage.”

In July, Hagerty released the “Future of Driving” survey which showed that nearly 60% of Gen Z respondents would like to own a collector car, compared to 31% of Baby Boomers. Several cars on the list have seen a rise in both insurance policies and quotes among Millennial and Gen Z enthusiasts. 

Polestar, the Swedish electric performance car brand, has announced the winner of its 2024 Design Contest, held in collaboration with Hot Wheels. And the 1:64 scale winner, echoing Polestar’s distinctive design language, is Shashank Shekhar, a professional designer from India. He won first prize for his rugged off-roader, ‘Polestar TRX,’ with its exaggerated proportions and sleek surfaces. The design becomes the first Polestar to be included in Hot Wheels toy car series, with the die-cast collectable available for consumers in the summer of 2025.

“I’m thrilled to win,” Shekhar said in a news release. “This will be the first design in my career to be produced, so it’s a big deal for me. I never thought that someday, something I have created would end up as a Hot Wheels car. It has been a great journey, and I’ve had an amazing time so far. Something like this gives you a lot of confidence as a young designer.”

Quite a cat-ch! Jaguar Chief Creative Officer/Professor Gerry McGovern OBE showed off the Type 00 concepts in London Blue and Miami Pink at Miami Art Week.

London Blue honors the iconic Opalescent Silver Blue of the 1960s E-type – and the concept has no rear window.

Miami Pink pays tribute to the city’s pastel colors and Art Deco architecture – and the long coupe shares almost nothing nostalgic with past Jags except the long bonnet/short rear deck of an E-Type.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars presents Cameo, a miniature sculpture inspired by the marque’s heritage that’s an homage to the open-top motor cars built in its earliest years. Handcrafted at the home of Rolls Royce at Goodwood, the model comprises a series of individual, highly engineered pieces designed for self-assembly.

The body is constructed by fitting together two sections – one of solid oak, and the other from polished aluminum – which, together, recreate the iconic Rolls-Royce two-tone finish. The oak body magnetically attaches to the aluminum chassis. Next, the meticulously engineered interior is installed. These pieces are 3D-printed and trimmed in the same Rolls-Royce leather used in full-size motor cars. Other authentic details include the self-levelling wheel center caps, which allow the ‘RR’ monogram to remain upright as the wheels turn. Finally, the Cameo driver takes their rightful place in the cockpit, ready to embark on a journey in luxury and style.

Tom Hartley Jr. Ltd. is selling the ‘Ecclestone Grand Prix Collection,’ with some of the most valuable Grand Prix and Formula 1 car collection in the world. The collection has been assembled by Bernie (the godfather of Formula 1) over the last 50 years. It spans 70 years of Grand Prix and Formula 1 racing and boasts many Grand Prix and Championship winning cars within the collection.

There are 69 cars. Within the Ferraris, there is the Alberto Ascari Italian Grand Prix winning 375 F1; the Ferrari Thin Wall Special, the first Ferrari to beat Alfa Romeo; and the very first 312 F1, a multiple Grand Prix winning car and considered by Ferrari to be the most original surviving Formula 1 car of that era. There are championship winning cars from the likes of Michael Schumacher, Niki Lauda and Mike Hawthorn. And included within the collection are championship winning cars from Nelson Piquet, one of which was used for testing with Ayrton Senna at the end of the 1983 Formula 1 season, including the famous BT46B ‘fan car’ in which Niki Lauda won the Swedish Grand Prix.

Other highlights within the collection include an ex-Works Maserati 250F, the monstrous 16-cylinder Mark II BRM and the famed Vanwall VW10, which in the hands of Stirling Moss achieved multiple Grand Prix victories in the 1958 Formula 1 Championship season and clinched the first ever Constructors’ Championship for Vanwall.

General Motors and TWG Global have reached an agreement in principle with Formula 1 to bring a Cadillac team to the series in 2026. GM is also launching an F1 power unit that will put the Cadillac Formula 1 Team on the path to being a “full works” team — building its own F1 vehicles and power units — by the end of the decade.

Cadillac would be the first new team to join F1 since 2016 and the eleventh team on the grid. And Mario Andretti, the last American F1 Champion, will serve as a director on the team’s board. 

“My first love was Formula 1 and now – 70 years later – the F1 paddock is still my happy place. I’m absolutely thrilled with Cadillac, Formula 1, Mark Walter, and Dan Towriss,” said Andretti in a news release. “To still be involved at this stage of my life — I have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming.”

“As the pinnacle of motorsports, F1 demands boundary-pushing innovation and excellence. It’s an honor for General Motors and Cadillac to join the world’s premier racing series, and we’re committed to competing with passion and integrity to elevate the sport for race fans around the world,” added GM President Mark Reuss. “This is a global stage for us to demonstrate GM’s engineering expertise and technology leadership at an entirely new level.”

Alfa Romeo just completed an intense test session with the “00 prototype” of the new 33 Stradale at the Nardò circuit, to test driving dynamics and performance in extreme high-speed conditions. Specifically, the test team monitored and validated parameters such as aerodynamics, top speed, maximum temperatures, propulsive cooling systems and cabin soundproofing, all ahead of the first delivery in Italy in late December
The famous Nardò Ring stands out for high-speed tests of cars and motorcycles, with its diameter of 2.5 miles  Alfa Romeo validated the target top speed of 207 mph, and acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in under three seconds. Advanced aerodynamics help raise the performance of the 3-liter twin-turbo V-6, which delivers more than 620 horsepower and is paired with an 8-speed DCT gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels with assistance from an electronic limited-slip differential. The new engine is an evolution of the existing V-6 currently in the Italian brand’s highest performance cars and is mounted longitudinally in the center for exceptional performance.

The car offers two drive modes, which can be activated from the switches on the central tunnel: Strada (Road) and Pista (Track). The former, engaged when the car is started, ensures comfort and driving pleasure: smooth power delivery, usual pedal sensitivity, soft suspension, fluid transmission and active exhaust valves open only above 4,000 rpm. Alternatively, in Pista mode, the driver chooses an adrenaline-fueled drive: the power is at its peak, the pedals are even more responsive and the suspension is rigid, as well as offering rapid gearshifts and active exhaust valves that are always open. One of the most exciting performance controls in this configuration is the Partenza Veloce (Quick Start) procedure: by pressing the Quadrifoglio button on the central tunnel, the gearbox, traction control and power delivery are optimized to avoid wheel slippage.

Bugatti has broken another world top-speed record with the W16 Mistral² World Record Car, setting a new top-speed world record for an open-top car, at 453.91 km/h. Done at ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg in Germany, this chapter in the automotive history books was opened with the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse with the roof down, open to the elemental force of air.

Andy Wallace – Bugatti Pilote Officiel and winner of the Le Mans 24 Hours – assumed the controls of the one-off W16 Mistral World Record Car, warming up the vehicle’s bespoke high-performance tires as the historic moment arrived.

Andy increased the speed before unleashing the full power as the straight opened up coming off the banking, taking it to new heights of record-speed. 

“Throughout the testing program leading up to this moment, it was incredible to feel how stable the car felt – I got the sense that it wanted to go faster,” explained Wallace. “And when it came to the moment itself, the experience was overwhelmingly thrilling; feeling the elemental forces from the open-top cockpit, the sound of the immense W16 engine emanating from the air scoops next to my ear – it made the achievement incredibly emotional. A record like this pushes the boundaries of automotive innovation, and requires immense focus, dedication, and teamwork to realize. It’s a true testament to the passion that everyone at Bugatti has for making history.”

Cadillac just unveiled its latest EV – the 2026 VISTIQ, a luxury three-row SUV with an estimated 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds with Velocity Max. VISTIQ production starts in early 2025 at General Motors’ Spring Hill Manufacturing plant in Tennessee4.

The 3-row SUV has a dual motor all-wheel drive system with available Air Ride Adaptive suspension, its 102-kilowatt-hour battery pack offering 615 hp and 650 lb-ft of near-instant torque – and an estimated 300 miles of range.

“From the start, it was our team’s goal to deliver a three-row SUV that provides exhilarating performance and intuitive technology, wrapped in the brand’s iconic design language,” said Jeff MacDonald, North American chief engineer, Cadillac VISTIQ. “Bold, yet refined, the VISTIQ provides a comfortable ride while handling like a much smaller vehicle, delivering a sense of isolated precision.”

It can be had with available Active Rear Steer and 23-inch wheels.  It also includes a 23-speaker AKG7 Studio Audio system with Dolby Atmos. The VISTIQ starts at $78,790, including destination freight charge.

The Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance and Motoring Festival was last weekend at the Port Royal Golf Club, helmed by Jacksonville resident Chris Brewer. 

The 1911 Oldsmobile Limited Touring Car was displayed by David and Patricia Peeler of Weddington, N.C. The 1957 Ferrari 250 GT TdF displayed by Frederick Fischer of Wildwood, Missouri. The cars were respectively crowned the Concours d’Elegance and Concours de Sport
Equally impressive was the 1965 Shelby Mustang GT 350, honored with the Paul Doerring Founders Award for its embodiment of innovation and heritage.

The FHP has Chargers, and a few Challengers with HEMIs. Now Dodge has teased its next-gen law enforcement-bound Pursuit Charger, just posted on Instagram. We know what the civilian Challenger, in straight-six-powered gas and EV form, look like. Butwhcih one this is, and what styling tweaks have been done for the police, aren’t visible. But it’s pobably the 4-door, since it would be tough to tuck a perp into the coupe’s back seat. Yes, there is a light bar on the roof. We’ll see soon.

The next Caffeine & Octane is set for 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, at The Avenues mall at 10300 Southside Blvd.

Gentle reminders – All vehicles parked in the Central Lot must remain in place until the show concludes. If you cannot stay until then, please park in the exhibit lot. Those parking in the Exotics Lot and the Porsche Corner are free to arrive and leave at any time. And FYI – some spots have been taken up by a holiday child’s entertainment zone, so C&O moves a bit down the lot for the duration.

The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is now the fastest car ever built by an American auto manufacturer.

At a test track in Germany, General Motors President Mark Reuss drove a 2025 Corvette ZR1 233 mph, setting a top speed record unrivalled by any current production car priced under $1 million. The Corvette team set this two-way average speed on the northbound and southbound straightaways of the High-Speed Oval Track at ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg.

“Setting the top-speed record in the Corvette ZR1 is a true triumph for Corvette and for Chevrolet, and also an exhilarating, surreal experience for me personally,” said Reuss. “With the current generation’s switch to mid-engine, we knew the outstanding performance and balance made this a real possibility. To go over there and get it done is a testament to the power of ZR1, and to the incredibly talented team that developed and built it.”

The ZR1 features the most powerful V8 engine ever produced in America by an auto manufacturer. Corvette shifted to mid-engine architecture in 2020, engineers leveraging GM’s software, modeling, and hardware development knowledge to set a new speed benchmark for American automakers. The ZR1 coupe which set the record had a standard chassis and aero package, with a standard spoiler with short wicker, carbon fiber ground effects, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and aluminum wheels. Chevrolet engineers developed Top Speed Mode, exclusively for closed course use, which adjusts chassis control systems for maximum speed. The ZR1 reached 233 mph with the engine at redline in sixth gear.

Aston Martin presents the DB12 Goldfinger Edition, crafted by the ultra-luxury marque’s bespoke personalization service, Q by Aston Martin, in celebration of 60 years of the iconic association between Aston Martin and the James Bond film franchise.

The partnership in cinematic history began with the release of Goldfinger in 1964, when the Aston Martin DB5 made its silver screen debut. The DB5 went on to become one of the world’s most recognizable cars and a crucial step in the brand’s illustrious ‘DB’ bloodline. Now, the latest evolution gets the 007 treatment.

To mark this historic milestone, just 60 DB12 Goldfinger Editions will be released worldwide. The DB12 Goldfinger Edition is focused on providing a more indulgent James Bond driving experience, incorporating subtle touches from the Goldfinger film.

Presented in the iconic Silver Birch paint color synonymous with the DB5 in Goldfinger, the DB12 Goldfinger Edition has 21” multi-spoke wheels with a unique silver color, gold side strakes and a unique Aston Martin logo in silver with a black enamel.

Crowned with a bright chrome ‘Q’ fender badge gives confirmation that this DB12 has received some truly special touches.

Inside this special edition, the leather Sports Plus seats are finished in the classic DB5 fluted style with an intricate Prince of Wales check perforation pattern, in a nod to a classic James Bond suit. This pattern extends to both the door inserts and the headliner, as well as being etched onto a unique treadplate. A polished sill plaque adorns the Goldfinger 60th anniversary logo.

Adding an elevated level of ultra-luxury to the interior of the car and awaiting the driver’s touch is 18k Gold Plated interior accents.

A subtle nod for Bond aficionados is the ’eight of hearts’ embroidered onto the drivers’ sun visor, which references the playing card seen in last draw during the famous Miami pool scene in Goldfinger. Each Aston Martin DB12 Goldfinger Edition is presented with a custom car cover and luxury key presentation box, along with a Silver Birch Speedform model and a section of the iconic Furka Pass scene in Goldfinger in 35mm film.

Always centered around single-seat, open wheel racers, F1 continues to attract the world’s best drivers and builders who create cars that push the technological envelope. Today 24 races held across five continents lead to a World Championship for one driver and one constructor/manufacturer. 

Since its inception in 1996, The Amelia has donated more than $4 million to deserving non-profit and charitable organizations. In keeping with past tradition, The Amelia will continue to support Spina Bifida of Jacksonville, local Shop with Cops programs, and Community Hospice and Palliative Care.

Ford Performance runs the forthcoming Rallye du Maroc, the traditional curtain-raiser for the legendary Dakar Rally, in this Ford Raptor T1+. And the team in Morocco will be led Matthias Ekström and Carlos Sainz Sr.

WRX champion Ekström and four-time Dakar champion Sainz join American off-road ace Mitch Guthrie Jr. and two-time Dakar champion Nani Roma to round out the Ford 2025 Dakar Rally driver lineup. All drivers and their navigators have previous Dakar competition experience.

Rallye du Maroc will serve as a pivotal step in the development of the truck ahead of the 2025 Dakar Rally by providing the team a proving ground to refine the utility vehicle under real-world rally conditions.

Ekström will join forces with Sainz for the 2024 Rallye du Maroc (Oct. 4-11), a key event on the rally raid, or open terrain race, calendar. Both drivers will take on the challenging Moroccan terrain in a pair of Ford Raptor T1+ utility vehicles, the purpose-built rally raid racer engineered in collaboration with longtime Ford Performance partner M-Sport to handle the extreme demands of desert racing.

The Ford Raptor T1+  features advanced suspension, a powerful V-8, and extreme performance designed for the harshest environments.

The concours’ featured classes include:

  • Corvette at Sebring. The Corvette became a serious sports car in 1956, debuting at Sebring and winning both the SCCA and Cal Club championships that year. Nearly 70 years later, hundreds of Corvettes have raced and scored victories at Sebring, which plays host to the biggest names in racing and is part of the Triple Crown of endurance racing including the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
  • Alfa Romeos of the 1930s. Alfa Romeo began the 1930s as it ended the 1920s; dominating Italy’s sports car and competition scene. In all, from 1894 to 1949, Alfa won more international races than any other marque, Bugatti, and Mercedes-Benz included.
  • Formula 1 Cars 1950-Present. The FIA Formula One World Championship has been one of the world’s premier forms of racing since its inaugural running in 1950. Always centered around single-seat, open wheel racers, F1 continues to attract the world’s best drivers and builders who create cars that push the technological envelope. Today 24 races held across five continents lead to a World Championship for one driver and one constructor/manufacturer. 

Since its inception in 1996, The Amelia has donated more than $4 million to deserving non-profit and charitable organizations. In keeping with past tradition, The Amelia will continue to support Spina Bifida of Jacksonville, local Shop with Cops programs, and Community Hospice and Palliative Care.
