Love Steve McQueen in Le Mans? How about the Gulf-Porsche 917 that was in the film, and was driven by the legendary Brian Redman at Road America in 1970?

Wel, thanks to video by Brian’s son James, here’s Chassis #22 of the original 25 firing up from a cold start on a recent cool misty Wisconsin morning at Road America.

The Amelia by Hagerty celebrates 30 years of global motoring excellence as it returns to Golf Club of Amelia Island and The Ritz-Carlton Resort from March 6 – March 9, tickets at AmeliaConcours.com.
The concours’ featured classes include:

  • Corvette at Sebring. The Corvette became a serious sports car in 1956, debuting at Sebring and winning both the SCCA and Cal Club championships that year. Nearly 70 years later, hundreds of Corvettes have raced and scored victories at Sebring, which plays host to the biggest names in racing and is part of the Triple Crown of endurance racing including the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
  • Alfa Romeos of the 1930s. Alfa Romeo began the 1930s as it ended the 1920s; dominating Italy’s sports car and competition scene. In all, from 1894 to 1949, Alfa won more international races than any other marque, Bugatti, and Mercedes-Benz included.
  • Formula 1 Cars 1950-Present. The FIA Formula One World Championship has been one of the world’s premier forms of racing since its inaugural running in 1950. Always centered around single-seat, open wheel racers, F1 continues to attract the world’s best drivers and builders who create cars that push the technological envelope. Today 24 races held across five continents lead to a World Championship for one driver and one constructor/manufacturer.

Since its inception in 1996, The Amelia has donated more than $4 million to deserving non-profit and charitable organizations. In keeping with past tradition, The Amelia will continue to support Spina Bifida of Jacksonville, local Shop with Cops programs, and Community Hospice and Palliative Care.

The upgrade also adds a six-inch BDS suspension lift with FOX coil-overs, upgraded rear shocks, 20-inch Hennessey 10-spoke wheels, 35-inch off-road tires, front and rear steel bumpers, and LED off-road lights integrated into the front bumper.

There’s a new baby Bug in the house – a Bugatti Baby II Tourbillon Edition that is a 75% scale, fully electric reincarnation of the iconic Bugatti Type 35, developed using a full 3D scan of an original 1924 French Grand Prix car. Made by Hedley Studios in Oxfordshire, UK, the Baby II is the result of over 200 hours of craftsmanship.

Its aluminum body panels are hand-beaten over wooden bucks using traditional coachbuilding methods, like those used on the original models that debuted at the Grand Prix de Lyon. And since it has electric drive, the traditional fuel pressure gauge now serves as a battery gauge, and a power gauge replaces the oil gauge. Like the early Type 35 variants, the turned aluminum dashboard – with its overlapping turns – ensures no glare disrupts the driving experience. Meanwhile, adjustable pedals, machined from solid aluminum billet and proudly bearing the renowned ‘EB’ logo, meet modern functionality and performance demands.

The Baby II Tourbillon Edition reproduces the sleek livery of the launch car, adorned in the familiar light and dark Aerolithe colorway, separated by a smooth ‘C’ curve – a reference to Bugatti’s iconic C-line – that stretches from behind the cockpit to the front of the car. This concept continues in the cockpit, where lavish Light Aerolithe leather hide covers the interior, perfectly complementing the overall aesthetic.

Wait, there’s more…

Calling it the most potent flagship in its 111-year history, Aston Martin announced the return of its most legendary nameplate this week – Vanquish. Highlights include a world-class V-12 engine, a bespoke chassis with state-of-the-art dynamics technology, carbon fiber bodywork and an interior which sets new standards of modern luxury, Aston says. And production is limited to under 1,000 examples a year.

Powered by a new 5.2-liter twin-turbo V-12 producing 823 hp, Vanquish achieves a top speed of 214 mph – the highest top speed of an Aston Martin series production car to date.

Hardware highlights of the new V-12 include a strengthened cylinder block and conrods, redesigned cylinder heads incorporating reprofiled camshafts, plus new intake and exhaust ports. Repositioned spark plugs and new higher flowrate fuel injectors deliver optimized combustion for class leading performance and efficiency gains. In addition, new higher speed, reduced inertia turbochargers deliver increased performance and throttle response.

A new front undertray and front crossmember bring additional gains in stiffness, the thicker front undertray supporting front subframe’s horizontal stiffness for improved steering feel and response. Re-engineered and repositioned rearwards to increase mounting point stiffness for the double wishbone front suspension, the new crossmember brings tangible improvements in on and off-center steering feel.

With an all-new surface language, Vanquish expresses contemporary elegance through its toned physique, broad stance and fluid curves. The key to achieving such compelling presence is an increased wheelbase; the distance between the A Pillar and the front axle being extended by +80mm to lengthen the bonnet for a rakish and indulgent profile.

Inside, a fully digital 10.25-inch driver display has been designed to deliver information with maximum clarity and offers custom display configurations. Similarly, the 10.25-inch Pure Black touchscreen system with full online connectivity, integrated with the repositioned center console, features technology with full capacitive single and multi-finger gesture control.

By changing the drive mode or using the dedicated exhaust button, the exhaust character can be changed from a relaxed, refined V12 tone in GT mode to an increasingly full-blooded, bold and assertive sound character when Sport and Sport+ modes are selected.

Supercar Xperiences – Dec. 13 to 15 – YOUR turn to get behind the wheel of a fleet of exotic cars at The FIRM’s 1.5-mile race track at 7266 Airport Road in Starke . Prices do not include Track Insurance (Starting at $39 per Car) which is required for drivers. SPECTATOR PIT PASS – $10.

Photo courtesy Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

For the first time in the history of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Best of Show was awarded to a preservation car—a Bugatti Type 59.

This year, 214 cars from 16 countries and 29 states pulled onto the competition field, and the car named Best of Show was a 1934 Bugatti Type 59 Sports presented by Fritz Burkard of The Pearl Collection in Zug, Switzerland.

“This storied Bugatti, the first Type 59 built, is a rare factory race car that recorded multiple Grand Prix victories at the hands of several important racing greats – and it also has ties to royalty,” Concours Chairman Sandra Button said in a news release. “Perhaps most importantly, it wears all of its history to this day, having been preserved in the livery it was given when redressed by King Leopold of Belgium.”

“I’m so happy for the car, so happy for Bugatti. This car is incredible,” added owner Fritz Burkard. “It’s so much history—one of the most successful Bugattis in history—and to win with this car means a lot to me. First time a Swiss, first time a European wins, first time a preservation wins. It’s important that preservation also gets recognition, because a car can only be once original. And it drives so beautifully.”

Preservation cars have appeared on our show field for decades, and we have hosted formal classes for them since 2001.

With this win, Bugatti and Mercedes-Benz are tied for the most Best of Show awards at Pebble Beach: ten wins each.

And a bit of Florida news from Pebble – the 1966 Cannara, owned by Guy Dirkin of Clermont, received the coveted Dean Batchelor award at last weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Geoffrey Hacker, president of the Undiscovered Classics collection in Tampa, curated the Wedge Car Class that included the Cannara and others.

Dirkin did extensive research into its place in wedge car history, while Rob Hernandez and Ralph Smith restored it.

Meanwhile, a Jacksonville car guy got to be Grand Marshal at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca. And part of the fun was driving around in a radial-engined Tarmac Touring Edition Manx, made by the original VW dune buggy company, Meyers Manx.

Wait, there’s more…

Electric vehicles usually go “Thrummm,” or “Hmmmm.” But the 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack EV’s Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust actually snarls, if the video just released by Stellantis/Dodge is any indication.

Dodge revealed the final performance character of the all-new Charger Daytona’s exhaust system, saying that the system “shatters preconceptions of a typical battery-electric vehicle” with a signature rumble and tactile sound wave output from the all-electric 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T and Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack.

“The world’s first Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust brings the raw rumble of iconic Dodge muscle to the next-generation, all-electric Dodge Charger Daytona,” said Matt McAlear, Dodge brand CEO – Stellantis. “We know our Dodge enthusiasts want that visceral feel you get when you drive a Dodge muscle car, and the Charger’s new Fratzonic system delivers the adrenaline-pumping spirit that they expect. It reacts to specific inputs and driving events, giving the driver a direct connection to their new Charger. Simply put, when you hear it and feel it, you will know it’s a Dodge Charger Daytona.”
The Fratzonic name is inspired by the Dodge’s brand’s historic Fratzog logo, the new symbol of Dodge brand next-generation vehicles and prominently featured on the all-new Dodge Charger. The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept, revealed in August 2022, teased a prototype version of the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust audio profile. The all-new Dodge Charger — the Dodge brand’s muscle car of the future — makes its debut on Aug. 10 at the annual Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge horsepower festival in Pontiac, Michigan.

Wait, there’s more…

The Split-Window Corvette is back – and Chevrolet’s new ZR1 – The King of the Hill – will have a 5.5-liter, twin-turbocharged DOHC flat-plane crank V-8 with 1,064 hp and 828 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm. That’ll make it the most powerful factory Corvette ever, and the most powerful V-8 ever produced in America from an auto manufacturer.

The Corvette ZR1 will have a GM-estimated top speed of over 215 mph on the racetrack, and dispatch the quarter mile with a GM-estimated sub-10-second time.

The carbon fiber aero package creates more than 1,200 pounds of downforce at top speed. And it does have a split rear window, like the 1962 Sting Ray did.

“The team that revolutionized Corvette with a mid-engine architecture took on another challenge: take ZR1 to the next level,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Chevrolet. “Corvette ZR1 is about pushing the envelope with raw power and cutting-edge innovation. From Stingray, to Z06, E-Ray, and now ZR1, the Corvette family continues to elevate with each new iteration — and challenge the best in the world.”

Unique to the 5.5-liter LT7 twin-turbo V-8: Head castings with unique ports and a larger combustion chamber; Valve train timing and lift profile optimized for forced induction with higher exhaust temp enabling exhaust valves; Completely new intake system tuned for twin turbochargers; and CNC machined combustion chamber, exhaust and intake ports specific to the LT7It rides on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires with  20-inch front, and 21-inch rear wheels. Colors include Competition Yellow, Hysteria Purple and Sebring Orange . It will enter production in 2025 and will be built at General Motors’ Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Kentucky.

Remember all those great compact sport trucks like the Ford Tremor?

Well, the 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo is the street-performance version of Maverick – with a lowered ride height and an on-road tuned suspension with tuned shocks and a 2-liter EcoBoost engine with 238 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque.

This Maverick is half-inch lower in the front, and 1.12 inches lower in the rear compared to stock, and the roof height is 0.8 inches lower. There’s a unique front fascia, painted rear bumper, and rocker moldings contrast with a black-painted roof and 19-inch black wheels.

Performance-tuned steering makes the truck drive more like a performance car, with torque vectoring through a twin-clutch rear drive unit found on Bronco Sport and bigger, enhanced brakes with dual-piston front brake calipers used on the Focus ST sold in Europe.

And it has a new Lobo drive mode, which improves cornering performance, grip, and stability, helping to minimize understeer.

Stop teasing us, and just build it…

Build the Cadillac SOLLEI concept vehicle, we mean, which Cadillac calls “the ultimate design expression of a coach-built luxury electric convertible.” SOLLEI conceptualizes an all-electric, 2+2 convertible, equipped with exterior lighting chorography for arrival and departure, and intuitive front and rear command console.

Defined in its name sun (‘SOL’) and leisure (‘LEI’), SOLLEI “reimagines the discovery of travel, envisioning a personalized driving experience that connects one with the natural world around them,” said Erin Crossley, design director, Cadillac. “The concept celebrates Cadillac’s pedigree of elegant convertibles in a modern form by cultivating high luxury through design expressions and experiences.”

The exterior’s low, elongated body is accentuated by a wide stance and long coupe door, with uninterrupted surfaces and stretched A-line emphasizing the vehicle’s length. The low tail design creates dynamic yet elegant proportions, while the mid-body line seamlessly connects the headlamp to the taillight. It is finished in “Manila Cream,” a color originally used on Cadillacs in 1957 and 1958.

The interior channels Cadillac’s “art of travel” design philosophy, wrapped in unstained wood veneers, while surfaces feature open pore finishes that can be felt by touch. Each piece is hand-cut and hand-laid. The windshield is framed in milled brushed aluminum continuing Cadillac’s use of natural materials. A custom brushed metal and leather-wrapped case houses 3D printed acrylic bird calls, a leather-bound journal with hand painted bird illustrations and a leather tool roll for pens and pencils, made to custom match the vehicle interior, allowing enthusiasts to capture their bird-watching experiences. Interior Nappa leather features a pink iridescent pigment that creates a subtle color-changing sunrise effect. The convertible metallic roof fabric is called “Daybreak”, whose name ties to the functionality of the convertible roof; as the roof pulls back, sunlight can pour over the interior.

Alas, Cadillac calls this a “convertible exercise” that represents the brand’s vision to offer modern design this time in an open-air format, inspired by iconic Cadillacs from the past.

IROC returned to historic Lime Rock Park in Connecticut last weekend, for the first time in nearly two decades. The brainchild of NASCAR great Ray Evernham, the weekend featured a highly anticipated exhibition race on the shirt, winding road course.

Highlighting the event was the 1973 Porsche RSR, originally driven by Mark Donohue, crossing the finish line first as driven by the car’s owner Bob Woodman. This victory was a fitting tribute, as Donohue was the first ever IROC winner in 1973, and secured three additional IROC race wins in the same Porsche.

The event also celebrated the reunion of several original racers with their iconic cars. Among them was Mark Martin, a celebrated name in motorsports with 96 victories across NASCAR’s top-three series, 13 IROC race wins and five IROC series championships. Martin was reunited with his No. 14 Dodge Avenger, donning his original 1995 True Value driver suit to complete the time-period look.

NASCAR and ABB, a global leader in electrification and automation, have designed a prototype race car.

And ABB becomes the first Official Partner of NASCAR Impact, the sanctioning body’s platform driving its mission to strengthen its communities and contribute to a healthier planet, and together will work to advance NASCAR’s strategic sustainability ambitions across electrification.

“ABB is a technology leader in electrification and automation, and we help customers globally to optimize, electrify and decarbonize their operations,” said Ralph Donati, ABB Executive Vice President. “The objective of the collaboration between NASCAR, ABB in the United States and the NASCAR industry is to push the boundaries of electrification technology, from EV racing to long-haul transportation to facility operations.”

The ABB NASCAR EV Prototype was developed in collaboration with NASCAR’s OEM partners — Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota — and was built by the NASCAR engineers responsible for the Next Gen car and the Garage 56 entry into the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Throughout the process, NASCAR and the OEMs collaborated on the design and elements of the vehicle.

The track-tested, electrified stock car has three STARD UHP 6-Phase motors (one front, two rear) supplying power directly to all four specially designed Goodyear Racing Eagle tires. Anchored by a 78-kWh liquid-cooled battery, the tunable powertrain can produce 1,000 kW at peak power. Regenerative braking converts kinetic energy into power, making the car ideal for road courses and short oval tracks.

The All-Wheel Drive car has a generic Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) body made of sustainable flax-based composite. It shares many similarities with both the Next Gen and Garage 56 cars – the body sits on a modified Next Gen chassis, and the steering, suspension, brakes, and wheels all derive from the NASCAR Cup Series car.
